Mad River Valley Residents Make A Difference

During 2008 residents in the Mad River Resource Management Alliance participated in a variety of programs that resulted in preventing many resources from incinerated or landfilled. A total of 13.12 tons of computer systems, printers, televisions, copiers, VCRs and related electronic equipment were collected and processed by Good Point Recycling located in Middlebury, Vermont. During the Spring and Fall Tire and Metal Collection Events a total of 2,090 tires and approximately 11 tons of metal were collected for reuse and recycling. We held our Twelfth Annual Truckload Compost Bin Sale where a total of 72 bins were distributed. Each bin can compost 650 pounds of garden and kitchen waste annually thereby diverting over 23 tons of material from the landfill to the garden. At the two household hazardous waste collections a total of 355 households participated in the events and a total of 1,970 gallons and 2,227 pounds of hazardous chemicals and 4,108 feet of fluorescent bulbs were properly managed. As you can see, the residents of the Mad River Resource Management Alliance made a difference in improving the environment.
