 SPRING HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION
 
THE MAD RIVER RESOURCE MANAGEMENT ALLIANCE(MRRMA) invites residents of Fayston, Moretown, Waitsfield, Warren and Waterbury to participate in a Household Hazardous Waste Collection on SATURDAY, TBA,   9 am - 1 pm at Harwood Union High School, Route 100, Duxbury.

Note that Small Businesses that want to participate must preregister with their disposal inventory no later than TBA. Business waste will ONLY be accepted between 8 am and 8:30 am. To register with your inventory and determine the cost of your disposal register at: malterport@aol.com. Payment will be due at the time of the collection.

If you are from outside of the MRRMA there is a $20.00 registration fee and no free disposal of ten additional units of HHW.

  • No fluorescent lamps or tubes will be accepted at this collection.
  • No charge for architectural oil or latex paint, primary batteries or pesticides. Beyond this, residents can bring an additional 10 gallons of liquid or 10 pounds of solid material at no charge. Beyond that there is a $5.00 per unit fee for disposal.
  • 30 or 55 gallon drums are not acceptable.
  • No compressed gases, fire extinguishers, explosives, radioactive or infectious wastes.

Some materials can be brought to the following businesses as a result of Product Stewardship Programs. 

Waitsfield
  • Bring primary batteries (AA, AAA, C, D and 9 volt) as well as small rechargeable batteries(less than 2.2 pounds), fluorescent lamp tubes and compact fluorescent lamps and mercury thermostats to Kenyon's True Value Hardware.
  • Bisbee's Ace Hardware  you can bring primary batteries (AA, AAA, C, D and 9 volt) as well as small rechargeable batteries(less than 2.2 pounds), fluorescent lamp tubes and compact fluorescent lamps, mercury thermostats and Oil and Latex architectural paint, please limit the amount to 5 gallons per visit.
  • The Earthwise Transfer Station will take primary batteries (AA, AAA, C, D and 9 volt) as well as small rechargeable batteries(less than 2.2 pounds) and used crankcase oil ($4.50/gallon). 
Waterbury
  • Aubuchon Hardware will take fluorescent lamp tubes and compact fluorescent lamps as well as oil and latex architectural paint. Please limit the amount to 5 gallons per visit. 
  • Waterbury True Value Hardware will take primary batteries (AA, AAA, C, D and 9 volt) as well as small rechargeable batteries(less than 2.2 pounds), fluorescent lamp tubes and compact fluorescent lamps, mercury thermostats and oil and latex architectural paint, please limit the amount to 5 gallons per visit. 
The Chittenden County Environmental Depot located at 1011 Airport Parkway in South Burlington can take all of the material that is normally collected at our Household Hazardous Waste Events.
  • There may be charges for disposing of all but the oil and latex paint, batteries and fluorescent bulbs.
  • They take a maximum of 20 gallons per visit.
  • You must schedule your visit by calling 865-4663.

Green Up Day - May 6, 2023
The Earthwise Transfer Station on Route 100 Waitsfield and Rodney’s Rubbish Transfer Station on River Road in Waterbury are holding a car and pickup truck tire collection on Saturday, May 6, 2023 in conjunction with Green Up Day. Residents of the Mad River Resource Management Alliance (MRRMA) can bring their car and pick up truck tires with or without rims to either facility for $5.00 each. The tires will be accepted at Earthwise from 8 am to 1 pm and at Rodney’s from 8 am to 2 pm Green Up Tires will be accepted at no charge on Green Up Day at both sites.
 
These sites will also be sponsoring an appliance disposal event. You can bring your old dishwasher or washer/dryer or other large metal objects and dispose of them at no charge at the same times as the tire collections. There is a charge for freon containing units. At Earthwise it is $40.00 for freezers and refrigerators and on Green Up Day only it is $10.00 at Rodney’s for processing these materials.

If you collect litter during a Green Up Project on May 6, 2026, you can bring the green plastic Green Up Bags at no charge to Rodney’s from 8 am to 2 pm or to the collection roll off located at the Waterbury Highway Garage on Guptil Road in Waterbury Center from 8 am to 4 pm or the Earthwise Transfer Station located on Route 100 in Waitsfield from 8 am to 1 pm. Check with your local Green Up Coordinator to see if there are any special projects or instructions in your community on Green Up Day, May 6, 2023.

Green Up Bags should be available from your Green Up Coordinator or Town Clerk.
